The modernization of Leipzig's main fire station includes, among other things, the energy-efficient renovation of the facade, enlarged gate entrances and improved functionality of the entire listed building in order to meet the current needs of a modern emergency response authority.

The forecourt will only be prepared up to the future course of the Pleißemühlgraben. The renovated main fire station will house the management of the fire department, the administrative and technical operations management for special operations and disasters, administrative units of the fire department and over 20 emergency personnel per shift as initial and supplementary units including the necessary operations management and rescue service. The forecourt will be used by the emergency services and as a reserve area for disaster control and as a helicopter landing pad. The outbuildings and the courtyard will serve as parking and training areas for emergency vehicles, as a crane and washing hall, as a disinfection workshop and for infection rescue vehicles.
