The Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg is one of those buildings that makes headlines even before it is completed. Presented as an idea in 2001, the ambitious project immediately aroused emotions: too big, too demanding, too expensive. And indeed, when the construction was decided on in 2007, it was expected that it would be completed three years later and cost 77 million euros. The planned construction time was exceeded by six years and the costs literally exploded to a staggering 866 million euros.

But nevertheless: Since its completion in 2016, the Elbphilharmonie has more than lived up to the expectations placed on it. Not only because more than 800,000 people attended the concerts in the first year, but also because the urban development concept of the planners and architects was a complete success - the 110-meter-high building in HafenCity was intended from the outset to be a "cultural monument for everyone" and a new landmark for Hamburg. Both goals were achieved with flying colors: today the Elbphilharmonie is the world-famous "calling card" of the Hanseatic city and a symbol of the courage to skilfully combine the new with the old.

The 200,000 ton building was constructed on the western tip of the Elbe island of Grasbrook, incorporating the former Kaispeicher A with its typical neo-Gothic brick facade. In contrast, the unmistakable glass structure is reminiscent of a sail, waves or even a quartz crystal.

What is not apparent from the outside is that the spectacular appearance conceals a wealth of Wieland quality: no less than 25 kilometers of copper installation pipes are used for the building services in the Elbphilharmonie. For drinking water pipes, hot water heating, surface heating and other applications in the field of technical building equipment, both bare copper pipes from the SANCO brand and coated copper pipes from the WICU brand as well as flexible copper pipes from cuprotherm CTX are used. The fact that these products are relied on for a superlative building - also in terms of functionality and durability requirements - is further proof of the trust that is placed in Wieland in terms of quality and performance.

The durable cuprotherm CTX quality pipes are particularly easy to install and can be installed flexibly. They ensure pleasant temperatures in the Elbphilharmonie's underfloor heating system.
